Sometimes, photography is not about looking forward, but looking down.

I found this scene inside a historical, aristocratic residence in the Italian Alps. Standing at the top of the staircase, I did not just see an architectural element. I saw a visual metaphor for the passage of time. The stone steps, worn by generations of footsteps, create a geometric spiral that leads into a silent abyss.

The Geometry of Silence

To capture this image, I deliberately chose a strong perspective view. It was a necessity for me to eliminate the horizon and force the viewer to confront the depth. The repetition of the iron railings acts like a rhythmic pulse, while the teardrop-shaped lamps hang like frozen moments of light in a dark sea of stone.

Technique as Emotion

Working in high-contrast monochrome allowed me to strip away the opulence of the residence and focus on the essential: the textures of the cold iron and the ancient masonry. In this work, the light does not just illuminate; it defines the void.

A Presence in Space

I imagine this artwork in an environment that values raw materials and architectural verticality. It would resonate deeply in a minimalist studio where silence is required, or in a large entrance hall where it can dialogue with stone, wood and concrete. It is a piece designed to stand as a silent witness, where every shadow holds a secret.

I feel this image as a portal into the layers of history, where every shadow holds a secret and every curve leads back to the heart of the unseen.
